A Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) code for electronic structure calculations, Part II: pwpaw for periodic solids in a plane wave basis
نویسندگان
چکیده
The pwpaw code is a plane wave implementation of the Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) method developed by Blöchl for electronic structure calculations within the framework of density functional theory. In addition to the self-consistent calculation of the electronic structure of a periodic solid, the program has a number of other capabilities, including structural geometry optimization and molecular dynamics simulations within the Born–Oppenheimer approximation. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Comparison of the Projector Augmented-Wave, Pseudopotential, and Linearized Augmented-Plane-Wave Formalisms for Density-Functional Calculations of Solids
The projector augmented-wave ~PAW! method was developed by Blöchl as a method to accurately and efficiently calculate the electronic structure of materials within the framework of density-functional theory. It contains the numerical advantages of pseudopotential calculations while retaining the physics of all-electron calculations, including the correct nodal behavior of the valence-electron wa...
متن کاملCalculation of valence electron momentum densities using the projector augmented-wave method
We present valence electron Compton profiles calculated within the density-functional theory using the all-electron full-potential projector augmented-wave method (PAW). Our results for covalent (Si), metallic (Li, Al) and hydrogen-bonded ((H2O)2) systems agree well with experiments and computational results obtained with other band-structure and basis set schemes. The PAW basis set describes t...
متن کاملAnalytic projection from plane-wave and PAW wavefunctions and application to chemical-bonding analysis in solids
Quantum-chemical computations of solids benefit enormously from numerically efficient plane-wave (PW) basis sets, and together with the projector augmented-wave (PAW) method, the latter have risen to one of the predominant standards in computational solid-state sciences. Despite their advantages, plane waves lack local information, which makes the interpretation of local densities-of-states (DO...
متن کاملGeneration of Projector Augmented-Wave atomic data: A 71 element validated table in the XML format
In the Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) method developed by Blöchl (1994), a PAW data file is needed for each element, taking the role of the pseudopotential file used with the norm-conserving or ultrasoft formalisms. In this paper, we review methods for generating PAW data files and for evaluating their accuracy, transferability, and numerical efficiency in simulations of bulk solids. We have dev...
متن کاملReal-space electronic structure calculations with full-potential all-electron precision for transition metals
We have developed an efficient computational scheme utilizing the real-space finite-difference formalism and the projector augmented-wave PAW method to perform precise first-principles electronic-structure simulations based on the density-functional theory for systems containing transition metals with a modest computational effort. By combining the advantages of the time-saving double-grid tech...
